Wasted Genius

I had a BRILLIANT idea! Get your friend's phone, change your name to their crush's name in their phone, text them so they think their crush is texting them. Brilliant.

I was talking to my roommates about this genius idea on Friday. I've never done it, for fear it was mean. After talking about it, Bethany went on a non-date to get pupusas with a boy named..."Jr." She also changed the password on her phone so I couldn't prank her.

Saturday somehow my other roommate gets into Bethany's phone and changes it so that now my number says "Jr." and Jr's number says "Rachel". Let the games begin:

"Jr" (Rachel): I can't stop thinking about pupusas. How's your day going?
Bethany: That's funny, because I can't stop thinking about you!
Jr: Wow! Do you have plans tonight?
Bethany: I've got something going on. (*editor's note: HARSH!)
Jr: Too bad. What about tomorrow?
Bethany: The sabbath?!?!? Church, duh

This was when I reached a fork in the road. What should I do? I was starting to dislike this game because (a) I needed to call Bethany for reals and I couldn't and (b) as much as I think pranking is funny, I always feel guilty. So I decided to come clean by using a phrase that would reveal my identity.

Jr: SR Check! (*editor's note: stands for "self-righteous check")
Bethany: haha. How did you know about that?

Now I am dying. HOW CAN BETHANY BE SO DUMB? By this point I was in my bed, working on my Marriage Prep lesson, and I was desperate. So I wrote:

Jr: Come get in my bed with me!
Bethany: Jr! You sure pull off the Peter Priesthood act pretty well for being so scandalous!

Then she comes in my room and sits on my bed.

When I finally asked her about it, she said she knew the whole time! haha. Not only had I been talking about it the night before, but she looked in her recent call list and speed dial list and thought "Jr wasn't there before...."

Moral: Bethany is not an idiot

Don't try this at home.

  4. Is it bad that I totally would have fallen for this? I'm the guy who fell for the old, "Did you know that gullible isn't in the dictionary?" ... twice.

  5. I SO tried this once on a boy who I used to have a crush on a few years ago. I switched the name of a girl he used to have a crush on with this really annoying girl in the ward who called him a lot. He caught on after a few text messages from "annoying girl" and then I got in trouble. At least I was amused in the meantime. And that's really what it's all about... our own amusements sake. Really.

  6. Just clicked over to you from Becky. Now I find myself asking 2 questions:

    #1. Why didn't I click over sooner?

#2. How is it possible I just spent so much time catching up on your blog? Didn't set out to do that... but I did. It was that fun. Thanks. A lot. :)

So glad we can be blogging friends!
