Monticello

Last month my friend Billy and I played hookie for a day and went down to Thomas Jefferson's home, Monticello. Maybe I should add how, before playing hookie, I had a moral dilemma and emailed my boss and said I wanted to take a sick day but wasn't really sick but wanted a day off and was that okay and if not I would come in...blah blah blah, she agreed and maybe I shouldn't be posting this online???

We had the greatest day! I love Virginia because you drive an hour away and you are in the country. It was gorgeous.

We love Thomas Jefferson!! I realized while there that my friend Scott looks just like TJ and I'm trying to convince him to quit his job and go work at Monticello as a TJ impersonator...

Billy loves Monticello! His house was awesome and was filled with clocks, books, and TJ's inventions. He would put beds between where the wall was between rooms to save space. Crazy

On our drive back to Arlington we saw a sign saying "this way to James Madison's house Montpelier" so we followed the deceptive signs because Montpelier was NOT that close! but after an hour of driving through the middle of nowhere we arrived and the house was not closed because of some private event we semi-crashed. Montpelier was so great. We ran around the property and to this pavilion and lake and tried not to be seen by the party-goers in tuxes.
Best day ever!! And the whole I day received emails and texts from my co-workers saying they hoped I felt better soon. And then one mentioned to my boss how I wouldn't be at work the next day either because I was sick and she said "Oh, I think she'll be better by then." Thanks, Monticello, for healing me!!!

  1. Such a fun day! I love Monticello- who knew TJ was so awesome? Montpelier looks incredible. Is that the closest you got?
BTW, "Mental Health Days" are totally legit. I took one every couple of months when I was working. I figured the school district didn't want one of their teachers going postal one day because of too much stress, so I reasoned I was doing both of us a favor by taking the day off :)

  4. Thank you for proving that you can tell the truth and, sometimes, still get to take a sick day (even if it hadn't worked, your honesty would have been inspiring ... someday I may have to see if Daddy Linklaters is as awesome as Papa Federal Government)
