Three Years

August 24, 2008: Trapped in Taiwan due to Tsunami

Also August 24, 2008 (due to major time change): Arrived in Salt Lake City, Utah

August 25-26, 2008: Said goodbye to everyone I know in Utah

August 27, 2008: Packed whole house while severely jet lagged, leading to lots of sitting on the floor of the living room, sobbing

August 28, 2008: Packed car at 4 a.m. (due to said jet lag); took off with Krystal to Washington D.C.!!! Saw Chrissy, Sang, Haley, and Nauvoo along the way.

September 1, 2008: Arrived at my home in Arlington, VA at 3 a.m.

September 2, 2008: Started work

That dramatic, though unnecessary, timeline is to indicate that yesterday was my three year anniversary in DC and today is my three anniversary at work! I am celebrating by working because I was the last one to ask for the day off, so I am here (and not in Maine, as planned...) while my co-workers are scattered around the country/world.

But how do you measure, measure three years?

- 4 different jobs
- 5 different desks
- 1 year at my current job that I am still in love with!!
- 1 house
- more roommates/temporary roommates/fake roommates than I can even attempt to count
- 2 callings
- 9 months teaching Institute
- 9 trips back to Utah
- 100000000 trips to NYC
- almost monthly trips to Maryland to see Janae and Scott
- Almost 3 years working at the DC temple
- 2 CRAZY blizzards a.k.a. Ice Planet Hoth
- 1 trip to the ER
- visits from such notables as Mom, James, Russell, Jackie, Stacey, Brooktynn, Gillian (x2), Anna, Beckie (x2), Sang (x2), Chad (x20), Carrie (x20), Elisabeth, Becky (after she so sadly moved back West), multiple married male law school friends out here for work, etc.

It has been great. I love D.C.

I just realized I accidentally very appropriately celebrated my three years in DC last night by going to my favorite place around (Wolftrap) with two of my very most favorite new DC friends (Kara and Wendy).

We were literally THE last people to leave and got kicked out twice: once from the venue and once from the parking lot. haha. Love these girls!

  1. I'm sorry- how are we "new" D.C. friends? Of the 3 years we've both lived here, we've been TTL besties for almost 2:)

Loved last night. Loved that you moved to D.C. and we met through Becky. Loved your crazy timeline at the beginning. Love you!
