In January I was going to Cancun and knew I needed a good beach book. I thought about what I had and decided to ask my friend Sara who was coming if she could bring that "book about vampires." She obliged, and I read Twilight on the plane and at the beach. The book drove me crazy, and I would not-so-periodically turn to Carrie Parker and lament how infuriating this book was. But of course, I couldn't put it down.
I finished the book and gave it to Sara and said thanks, mentally noting that I had no desire to read the rest of the series. Then Sara said "good news--I brought the second book for you, too!" and I realized I could not refuse it when she had brought it all the way to MEXICO! So I began New Moon. Somewhere in there I loved them and quickly read Eclipse as well.
I didn't think much about the books after that. This is telling from a conversation in China when Matt asked me to tell him what happens in Twilight. *Spoiler alert* I told him "she likes this vampire and at first he's not sure about it and then they start dating." He asked if there was any more to the plot and I said no. He asked what happened in Eclipse and I said "well, she realizes she also loves Jacob and kisses him and then it's confusing." He asked about vampire wars and I said I had no idea.
After I finished the Bar exam I heard the fourth Twilight book was coming out. I remembered how it was the perfect airplane book, so I bought it for my flight to Hong Kong.
Little did I know that Bethany had downloaded Twilight on her iPod and was going to get into the series in China as well. Somehow Bethany had never heard of Twilight before, even though I was reading it/trash-talking it in Cancun. Hmm.
One thing led to another, and we all became obsessed with Twilight on our trip. Here are a few pictures:

yes...even here. The reason they are laughing is because Matt discovered that Bethany was re-listening to Twilight (before her iPhone was stolen).

And guess what? We are going to see the movie TOMORROW at midnight! That's right! We'd kind of joked about how we'd buy the day pass to the theater on Nov 21st and see the movie all day....and well, we ended up getting Friday off work so we can devote the day to Twilight. Carrie Parker is coming down from NYC for the event. We got 3 of our roommates to read Twilight and they are coming too (though two of them are still going to work--lame!) We even got matching pajama pants for the occasion!
If you haven't read the book, I am not going to claim any merit to them other than they are fun. Harry Potter still rules.

p.s. the best Twilight book by far: http://stepheniemeyer.com/pdf/midnightsun_partialdraft3.pdf
You are always all over this world, how fun!! I am due in April, very excited! :)
ReplyDeleteWe had to cancel YW tonight cuz half the girls are going to an advanced showing tonight. I don't get it--at all.
ReplyDeleteI still love Jacob Black.
ReplyDeleteThe destruction of your heart shirt is a cool thing. Now you can use it to heart other things besides New York.
You'll have to update us on if it's any good...I have REALLY low expectations, but I am still really exited to see it to see how it's all done. Have fun!!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your new background! Bite me! hahahahahahahaha :)
ReplyDeletedang. I can't see the background on my dumb iPhone but I'm sure it's amazing. Oh how I love your twilight obsession. I, too, was skeptical at first, but I was quickly obsessed, done with the first three in two weeks and trolling blogs with crazy teenager fans (am I reverting?). I can't wait to see the film with you and bask in it's awesomeness. We should watch matchie scratchies to the theatre. :)
ReplyDeleteP.S. I love that rob/kristin pic.
Rach, I'm glad to see I have a legacy! At least I can say I have influenced one person for good in my life...Haha! Maybe whoever stole Bethany's iPhone is getting all of China hooked on it as well! It serves them right!
