So--you may have caught on from the one-track theme of this blog lately that I had a goal to go to every temple in Utah this summer. I was supposed to go down to Monticello yesterday--a good 4.5 hour drive from Provo. But nobody would go with me!! So I am going to Bountiful next week, and then I will have gone to 10 of the 11 temples. And school starts in a week, so my summer is gone! So I failed my goal!! My apologies to all of you faithful blog readers. However, I will make it to Monticello someday...and I think it is really for the best that we didn't go down yesterday, because I had to move this weekend so yesterday I was able to spend the day packing and cleaning. I hate moving. It is miserable. But my roommate and I moved into my aunt and uncle's house in Orem and we are loving life!! The house is beautiful and they are so nice to us and we are afraid that in two weeks when we are supposed to move into our apartment, we're not going to want to leave! We are so blessed!!
In other news, I am beginning my last week of work. This summer I have learned much, one of the most important (and unfortunate) things being that I really don't think being a lawyer is the thing for me. Maybe. I do love law school, and have no regrets about going, especially since the law is such an empowering thing to know. But I figure I can afford to be a little idealistic, and if I want to find a random job where I don't use my J.D., all I've got to lose is my pride (and perhaps the $100,000+ a year that I would be making elsewhere...but let's just not think about that...). So now I begin my adventure of my third last year in Provo (I thought I was leaving twice before), and I think the time has come for me to finally leave in April and to move on and find some sort of job. It really sounds awful!!
What? And miss out on things like the "Trial of the Century"???

ReplyDeleteYou have SO not failed...I am so impressed. 10 out of 11 in ONE summer? That's incredible Rachel. Plus, you can get to Monticello in the next month or so and even to say that you hit all UTah temples in 4 months is still pretty incredible.
ReplyDeleteMy dad grew up in Monticello, so if you want some tips about what to while you're there, drop me a line. Also, I grew up (partly) in Bountiful, so I can also give you ideas about stuff to do there (such as fight with my younger siblings!)

REM, darling, oh how this blog fills me with mixed feelings.
ReplyDeleteOn the one hand, I am sad you missed Monticello. I am, however, delighted that you visited Vernal. Awww...Vernal.
On the other hand, I am excited that you are living the two-week life of a pimp (wait, that sounds bad). At any rate, I'm glad you're digging your temporary digs.
On the other hand (there are many hands), I can lend an antidote - my co-worker has a masters and JD and works for our non-profit lobbying firm (huh? huh?).
On the final hand, I am filled with the joy at the prospect that you will some day return here, to D.C., and frolic with me through life. That will be a swell day.
And now, after much long-windedness, I close.
xoxoxo
hey, just remember that I'll be working 80 hours a week for 40 grand for at least 3 years after I've gotten my degree....
ReplyDeleteI was in Monticello last week. It sucks. You missed nothing.
