More, Canada

So, Canada. My mother is from southern Alberta and loves it so, and her favorite place on earth is a little spot called Waterton. Her life-long dream finally happened and we went! For a week! Everyone in my family! Between eating Canadian chocolate and playing Dungeons & Dragons, we took some pictures.

The moment we crossed the Canadian border it started snowing. Love summer vacations in winter destinations. Luckily Harris is used to recess in Idaho Falls and came prepared.

My great aunt owns a cabin there--it treated us well.

View from our backyard: The Prince of Wales hotel. My mom's favorite job ever was doing laundry there when she was 19!

John's favorite place in Waterton: internet cafe.

Cardston Temple--where my grandparents were married!

We visited my mother's hometown of Raymond and saw lots of relatives. Then we stopped by the cemetary to see my grandparents' graves.

Every vacation needs a photo shoot...

We hiked to the top of a mountain...crazy view from the top! And CRAZY WIND!

Russell trying to move through the crazy wind!

Windy conditions mingled with photography led to a fall.

The wind was INSANE! Here they are trying to keep Jack from blowing away...literally.

Hike made possible by willing baby-sitters!

Everyone joined us for the second hike of the day. Glad I brought my opera glasses aka cheap binoculars with me--they got a lot of use!

Jack had a good spot for the hike. Pardon my hair--it was always so windy!

My main memory of previous Waterton trips was getting ice cream...so we had to re-live that.

We laughed at a six year old walking around drinking Mountain Dew...don't worry--everywhere we bought Mountain Dew in Canada it was caffeine-free!

Will approved.

Russell, SJ, Victoria and I took a little cruise down to the American side through Glacier National Park--no passports needed!

America!

My in-laws live about 20 miles from Glacier National Park on the American side. We go up there a couple times a year. It is absolutely beautiful there! I tease my mother-in-law that it is what heaven will look like, but it will be called TEXAS! Make sure you get some Huckelberry ice cream while you are there.

  7. Glad you had so much fun! It was great seeing your vacation pics. Sorry Waterton was so windy for you. Interestingly, the Native Americans (in Canada, they are called "First Nation people") traditionally believe that the Wind God lives in Waterton. Hmmm.... I wonder why?

Love, your mom's cousin Flora (My husband and I served with your friend, Brooktyn, in the New York South mission.)
