Twihard

A few weeks ago my roommate bounded into my room with big news:

"There's a Twilight Convention this weekend!"

!!!! How had I not heard about this earlier? Could it be that my stepheniemeyer.com and twilight fan club google reader subscriptions failed me? Luckily my roommate had been in line at Kohl's and had overheard two girls discussing what they were going to wear to the BALL at the Twilight Convention! And how they were going to win the centerpiece contest (???).

I had to know more.

Thankfully, google did not fail me.

I found out that the convention was happening at a hotel less than two miles from my house! I also found out that it cost a lot of money, and going to the Ball alone cost an additional $80!!!!! Couple that with an already packed weekend, and I thought perhaps I was doomed.

But then I had a brilliant thought: why not go to the hotel lobby and watch everyone in their Twilight Ball outfits? So I left a church talent show early and dragged three friends (including law school classmate Peter!) to the Twilight Convention.

I was excited to see the lobby PACKED and this huge line of people to see....someone famous? I did not recognize anyone! After a while, I realized that the guy who plays Mike Newton was at the end of the line and had dyed his hair black and it looked HORRIBLE. And who wants his autograph anyway?

We made Peter take our picture:

But who would have guessed that this picture would be the end of me? After the flash went off, we were approached by a woman who asked if we were there for the Twilight Convention. How do I answer that? Yes, that is why I was there, but no, I did not pay. So I said no and we got KICKED OUT.

But that doesn't mean I left.

So then we walked around the lobby some more and were puzzled why no one was dressed up for the ball! So I went up to the top level where the ballrooms were and there was a wedding (and I was not about to crash a wedding) but luckily one of the Twi-hards started talking to me and her face was painted weird and I asked why and her answer made no sense (someone suggested she might have been drunk but I think she was still in shock post-meeting Mike Newton with nasty hair).

Anyway, in the end we did figure out where the Ball was being held and we tried sneaking in, but to no avail. And we peeked through the cracks but no one was in there yet. And I had plan #3 of the night, so we had to go. WORTH IT!

We asked Peter if he told anyone how he attended a Twilight Convention and he said no...
