In 2001 I shared a bedroom with Bethany in Provo. One night I came into our room while she was sleeping. She started asking me if she could borrow my "matchie scratchies". No idea what she was talking about--but the name stuck.
Then in 2004 I am STILL living with Bethany and I come home with these amazing pajama pants!!! Bethany loved them, so we rushed back to Old Navy so she could buy a matching pair.

In 2008 Bethany and I are STILL roommates, so we decide to buy matchie scratchies for our whole house (and a bunch of other people too).

Becky surprised us with her own version, too!!! For the Theatrical Thursday ladies--we would wear these to our weekly gatherings (except for the rare time we left Becky's apartment).
And in 2009 Kristine surprised the new batch of roommates with an updated pair of matchie scratchies!
Anyway, my sister-in-law Sarah Jane noticed this trend: matchie scratchies for everyone I know. But none for the family! She requested Murdock Matchie Scratchies!!! I had thought about it before, but wasn't sure how to get matching pajama pants for grown men and baby girls. So I had an idea. I would make them!!!
Behold the entire purpose of this post--an email chain:

On Friday night Deana is going to teach us how to make pajama pants!!! You can make your own pants, or I am going to make pj's for my family, so you are welcome to help with that endeavor, too.

So, in the end I bought non-matching but coordinating pajama pants for the entire family! Sadly no pictures....yet.
Wow... I totally need in on this at some point in our friendship. :) Love it.
ReplyDeleteI love that thanks to you and Bethany, "Matchie Scratchies" is now a common phrase in my vocabulary. THANK YOU! Unbelievably, mine still fit, (albeit wedged under my massive 7-month preggo belly).
ReplyDeleteI wore my new Mathchie Scratchies to sleep in last night. They are great.
ReplyDeleteRachel!! How could you have forgotten another pair of Matchie Scratchies that you and I have?! The blue ones with white polka dots....photo shoot!!!
ReplyDelete3 cheers for matchie scratchies. I LOVE that I will probably see you tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe I was a roommate for a year and a half and never got a pair of matching pajamas :( I feel so deprived.
