I guess I am in the mood to post about marriage - first Russell, then the shirt. Now my stake's theme.
When I moved into my ward, my friend said the stake's theme is "every member a matchmaker." I laughed because I thought it was a joke. The next week I met with the bishop and he talked to me about it and I realized it was real!!! So I took it to heart and tried my best to "match make."
One weekend my roommate Kari was out of town. I started thinking maybe I needed to take matters into my own hands. (*please note before reading the story that I truly had pure motives. That makes a big difference in the law...)
My roommate Geneva and I then baked some cookies. Well, mostly Geneva baked while I wrote. I thought of 7 single men that Kari didn't know very well but maybe things could work out but she'd first need to show some interest! So I wrote them appropriate notes (nothing embarrassing), signed Kari's name, and then Geneva and I delivered them to the various men. I was excited as I pictured what would happen next: men would realize that Kari could bake and write amazing notes, and would begin to think of her in this romantic context and would begin to ask her out and she'd be married in no time! Brilliant!
That night Kari got home around 1 a.m. A couple of hours later I am sleeping in my room and suddenly hear someone scream my name. I decide to ignore it because I am tired and really don't want to deal with anything. But then a minute later I go find Kari in her bedroom, reading her email. Apparently one of the guys had written her a thank-you email for the cookies, and Kari's no fool so when she got an email from a random boy thanking her for cookies, she assumed it was me. Geneva was much smoother than me and denied everything. I finally conceded that indeed, I had given cookies to that one boy.
The next day another boy emailed Kari about the cookies...so I had to finally fess up. But I told her about my pure motives and that I was just trying to help her get married. Unfortunately, Kari ended up telling every one of the cookie recipients that I had done it as a joke (joke!?!). So in the end, not only did the boys not think she was interested, they thought I was mocking them.
It has since become a threat that Kari will deliver food to a boy under my name. I simply remind her that I wouldn't mind the help.
Consider it done! :)
