All the Poems

Poem 1
An Australia / New Zealand Haiku Duet

1. Kangaroo, strange friend
hopping through my memory.
Teppan? Delicious.

2. Nocturnal, can't fly -
Does it even have wings? Yet,
I love you, kiwi.
- Steve Osborne

Poem 2
I visited Australia on a personal quest
To discover what animal I really like best
I heard Kangaroo tasted just like chicken
But truth be told it was not finger-lickin’
Good; however, I’m not complaining
I wanted to go to Movie World but it kept raining
At the opera house I went and saw Vula
But it wasn’t so bad since it was my dad’s moola
For most of the trip my pops was my funder
And that’s why I saw the land down under.
- Russell Murdock

Poem 3
To me, Australia is song
Written by convicts
And sung by the Men at Work
- Janae Preece

Poem 4
In the (what) summer of (who) double-oh-six
Rachel went south to get her kicks
She met some barristers and learned some new tricks
like how they make those boomerang sticks.

She went to live on the Gold Coast,
Where her social life wasn't the most,
Until friends flew in and she played host,
Even took them to a kangaroo barbecue roast.

We wonder what went through her brain
When she kayaked across the sea in the rain,
or drove down the street in the left-hand lane,
Whoever loaned her that car was definitely insane!

Her hours in Melbourne taught her a lot,
That Bollywood is cooler than previously thought,
That A&M is better down under ... not!
And the Bikini Parade isn't really that hot!

Only a few more days till her show is done,
Time to go home and have more fun,
Spending long hours in the law school on her bum,
Wishing for a bit more Fair Dinkum!

- Jordan Muhlestein

Poem 5
Sydney, the Gold Coast
Oh I love them both so much
Opera House; beach
- Jenni Carlquist

Poem 6
Of Australia I know not much
Just kangaroos, koalas and such
But it drives me insane
That there is no Wayne
Even though he'd make me go dutch
- Janae Preece

Poem 7
Gold Coast Memories
Kayaking and soggy bread
I miss it the most
- Jenni Carlquist

Poem 8
Rachel Murdock will marry a really tall man
In the future, perhaps his name will be Stan
He'll love her so much
That he won't even blush
When he receives his gift of a short fertility god.
- Kari Baardson

Poem 9
Good on ya mate!
you're in Aussie land tonight,
where the men cock their heads,
and tell ya she’ll be right.
Good on ya mate!
look at those kangaroos lie,
listen to the Kookaburras--
the monkeys of the sky!
Good on ya mate!
the sunset's in the sky,
You're in the land of Australia--
the land of pesky flies!
Good on ya mate!
just beyond the circular Quay,
lies the grand 'ol opera house--
the stationary sailship of the sea!
-Alex Paulos

Poem 10
Although I've never been,
I know this to be true:
The best part of Australia is,
Surprisingly, not the kangaroo.

The best part of Australia
Is Rachel Elizabeth Murdock..
And all things
racheldownunder.blogspot.com.
- Elisabeth Lynn

Poem 11
There once was a Rachel Down Under,
(She's great, but I won't steal her thunder)
She wrote a great blog,
My time it did hog,
Though I kept my job so she blunder'd.
- Doug Gallup

Poem 12
Curls and kinks;
hands coated with lotion and goop.
Nothing works.

Looking for a man
and a straightener.
Nothing in sight.

Ponytail a mess,
flyaways abound.
Nothing to worry about.

Return trip home,
styling tool reunion.
Nothing but beautiful.
- Becky Wickstrom
